Butte seeks public input for new five-year economic plan | Butte News

The Butte Local Development Corporation is preparing to implement a five-year plan to address local businesses and their role in the economy, and they’re asking for public input during the process.

BUTTE, Mont. – Butte officials are launching a five-year plan to enhance the local economy, and they want the community’s input.

The Butte Local Development Corporation (BLDC) is spearheading this initiative to attract new businesses and retain local talent.

Despite recent economic successes, including the filming of “1923” and the annual Montana Folk Festival, Butte is looking to improve further.

Kelly Sullivan, executive director of the BLDC, emphasized the plan’s goals.

“Some of the things that we’re looking at include employee recruitment, talent attraction, and employee retention,” Sullivan said. “We’re looking at business recruitment, definitely–putting money in the hands of people who are wanting to start, expand, or relocate a business to Butte.”

Public input is crucial for the plan’s success. An open meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4 at Butte Brewing Company at 5:30 p.m. This meeting aims to gather community stakeholders’ opinions on what should be prioritized.

“We’re asking [the public] if they know what we do and do they understand how we operate… what would they like to see us doing?” Sullivan added. “What is on their wish list of things that the Butte Local Development could be helping with to lend to the economic vitality of the community?”

For those unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting, the BLDC will host several pop-up events and informational sessions throughout March. These events are at the following locations, dates, and times:

  • March 14: Shawn O’Donnell’s (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
  • March 17: The Copper Plate or M&M (9 a.m. to 11 a.m.)
  • March 19: Oro Fino Coffee or The Miners Cafe (7 a.m. to 9 a.m.)
